One of the best introductions to German Baroque poetry

This well-organized analysis of German seventeenth-century (and gallant) poetry is one of the best on the topic, probably the best in English. Browning's many works on German literature and other topics reveal him as an uncommonly well-read man. Here his close readings of individual poems are extremely valuable.
