The Truth About "Inequality" and Intelligence

With his usual combination of exhaustive research, impeccable logic and excellent writing, Itzkoff explains how a Nation's success is inextricably linked to its intellectual capital. He provides an excellent discussion of Man's evolution. Itzkoff's thesis: By all objective standards, after many years on the rise, Intelligence of young people in America is declining. He does not blame teachers. Rather, he believes young Americans no longer have the "Intellectual Capital" to profit from American educational resources. It is a statistical fact that less intelligent Americans are breeding at a far higher rate than the highly intelligent. Moreover, the Government is actually subsidizing and promoting the breeding of the less intelligent.
He maintains there is no scientific basis for "Race" definitions. There is, however, powerful evidence that intelligence is passed through Genes. Environment may have a small impact on individual measurements of Intelligence, but major gradations are based on Genetics. He cites studies where students from very poor environments, still had high intelligence, despite all odds being against them. Conversely, even after putting students from families with low Intelligence into the best environments, their Intelligence and abilities improved only marginally. In short, all people are not born equal, and spending Billions on Education will not turn simpletons into geniuses. America spends more on Education than many countries, with poor results.
Itzkoff demonstrates that national success depends on citizens having enough intelligence to perform a variety of non-menial jobs. The pool of Americans able to perform technical, scientific and skilled jobs is declining rapidly. Thus, the Nation is also declining. He provides powerful factual support for the economic and scientific rise of other Nations based on their enlightened breeding habits. His solution: Americans must become enlightened and breed appropriately.
Sadly, I believe we have passed the tipping point. The Book was written in 1992. Average Intelligence has declined even more since then. Itzkoff's more recent articles confirm his thesis.
Judging by recent voting patterns and public debates, it appears Americans have become irredeemably irrational and suicidal. In addition to statistical studies, every American can think of thousands of anecdotal cases that demonstrate the "dumbing down" of America. Irrationality and logical fallacies predominate in the news and politics. Ideological Idiots have taken charge. Such seems to be the fate of once great nations that grow too comfortable and detached from reality.
